Find a Solution:
Harrogate International Centre Case Study
Background
With its grand boulevards, enticing shopping arcades and manicured green spaces, Harrogate is the epitome of elegance. It’s also a fitting home for the impressive Harrogate International Centre (HIC), one of the UK’s foremost conference, exhibition and event destinations.
Hosting an astonishing 300+ trade and public exhibitions, conferences and entertainment events each year, the venue has a fully air-conditioned auditorium seating 1977 in a single tier. The technical equipment is of an equally high standard and includes broadcast and interpretation facilities, luxurious bar, banqueting facilities and VIP suites.
The auditorium is linked to eight purpose-built exhibition halls with a total gross area of 16,500sqm, including Hall Q with 1,752sqm (nett) of shell scheme space, interconnected with the main foyer by twin escalators. The Queen’s Suite, which opened in 2005, offers organisers one large breakout room, seating a maximum of 600-theatre style or up to 10 smaller individually soundproofed rooms.
The Requirement
Harrogate International Centre’s brief was for a high quality distributed TV system using the newly installed data network. Its purpose was to distribute broadcast television, show-relay TV, digital signage, rolling presentation and promotional video. Furthermore, HIC did not want to incur the significant cost of installing dedicated video cabling but wanted an IP based solution. HIC stated a preference for each fixed screen to be individually addressable and allow the extension of the system on a temporary basis to meet the requirements of the varied exhibitions and conferences. It was also essential that the system was easy to set-up and administer.
The Solution
The Digital Media Projects uHDMS IPTV system offered the best solution for HIC’s requirements and was installed at the center. The system installed included a 6 input unit with multiple input types, including DVB-S, DVB-T,DVB-C and Live Encode input. Around 25 Amino 110H standard definition set top boxes were also supplied in order to give HIC the ability to control individual screens around the center.
The Benefits
The IPTV system installed at HIC has proved a fantastic success for the center, the benefits of the system include:
- No extra cable having to be installed, saving many thousands of pounds
- High Definition content available on screens around the center
- Discrete control of screens using the Amino 110H set top boxes
- Multiple channels of content available on the screens
- Fast deployment of content to screens
- Live 'Show relay' ability allowing live exhibitions to be transmitted around the conference center
- Integrated electronic program guide facility (EPG) giving the users of the system greater control, and usability
- Digital Signage can be quickly up-loaded and distributed for a show
- Exhibitors have the added benefit of being able to rent channels on the system to distribute their own content, providing a high powered and effective advertising tool.
